Rubric Design

Well designed rubrics provide clarity around assessment decisions, create a common platform from which educators and students can work together, and support the development of self-regulated learning. Many educators invest considerable thought and care in developing rubrics with the intention to fulfil all these functions.

This capability building program deepens that practice. It begins with defining and unpacking the knowledge and skills you are assessing, so that rubrics measure what they are designed to measure.

About Rubric Design

Who is this for? 

Schools, higher education organisations, and education systems whose staff design and use rubrics to evaluate and improve learning. Suitable for whole-staff delivery or leadership-focused cohorts across primary, secondary, and higher education contexts.

The Program

This program is delivered across two interconnected stages:

 

Stage 1 - Rubric Design

A full-day, bespoke workshop for teaching staff, designed around your specific curriculum context and assessment tasks. Drawing on Griffin's widely published framework, participants work through the principles of effective rubric design that support consistent evaluation and meaningful analysis of student work.

Stage 2 - From Design to Practice

A series of online workshops tailored to your organisation's priorities and context. Focus areas include exploring rubric types suited to specific domains and purposes, analysing student performance data, moderating student work, providing meaningful feedback, and supporting student self-regulation of learning.

Ongoing Support

Between sessions, participants have direct access to Dr Richardson for questions and support as they implement new practices.

Duration

Typically, one semester. Condensed delivery available for specific timeline requirements.

Investment

Full-day professional learning starts from $7,000.

Workshop sessions start from $1,440/session (up to 12 participants).

Travel and accommodation charged separately.
